The Dark History Behind Halloween
Vampires, werewolves, witches, black cats, and things that go bump in the night! We all recognize these familiar Halloween characters, but how much do we really know about the stories behind them?
Join us as we explore the strange history, myths, and mysteries surrounding some of Halloween’s most recognizable legends. Where did vampire stories originate? Could a medical condition help explain some of the myths? What do Dracula, old burial practices, and the expression “dead ringer” have in common? How did werewolves become associated with the full moon and silver bullets? And where did the image of a witch flying on a broomstick come from?
We’ll also explore the history of black cats, the origins of the jack-o’-lantern, and something much more mysterious: the Hat Man. Have people really experienced a shadowy figure standing in their room? What is sleep paralysis, and how do people interpret these unsettling experiences?
