Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is one of the fastest growing and most widely used technological advances the world has seen. It is also one of the least understood and most dangerous, with the potential for catastrophe lurking around every corner. Often people who have been in on the beginning of an AI model leave the project when they realize how little control they have over it, and how quickly it becomes more than what they created. While it started as a way to gather and analyze data faster than humans can, it has morphed into so much more. There are applications in medicine, warfare, and weaponry, to name a few. The idea of removing human error might sound appealing, but imagine a machine with no human understanding or emotion making a decision on where or when an attack will happen, when a nuclear weapon will be launched, or even what treatment will be given to a human patient.
We know this episode is a little longer than usual, but there is so much happening in the world around AI right now and we didn’t want to miss showing you as much as possible. Also, after 75 episodes and two years, we are taking a little break. Pastor Penny is taking a sabbatical from her full-time job pastoring two churches, so we are taking a sabbatical from the vodcast as well. While we may still do some live or short, impromptu videos, take this time to go back and catch up on anything you have missed.
